2/3/2024 0 Comments Goat Color GenticsUsing my understanding of goat color genetics, I used Punnet Squares to try and figure out what color kids we will have this year! This is just for fun, and to see if I can become more accurate as I learn more over time.
Each goat has two alleles for color, and they pass one of these to their kids. I can use this fact to create a Punnet Square where each box has 25% of happening. b is medium brown, like Minuet and Chewie. This color needs one copy to be expressed on the goat. B is dark brown; I believe it only needs one copy to be expressed. Sonata is this color, so I don't know what other color gene she carries. G is grey. G needs one copy to be expressed. Strudel is this color. With Chewie and Sonata, two boxes are Bb, which should be expressed as dark brown, like Sonata. Since the other gene that Sonata carries is unknown, we don't know what other color is possible! For Chewie and Strudel, it depends on what gene Strudel carries. Both of Strudel's parents carried Gb, so Strudel is either Gb or GG. If Strudel is GG then all the kids should be grey, but if she is Gb half the kids will be grey and half will be brown. Copper and Minuet is the last case. Minuet has two medium brown genes. Copper has one brown gene as his mother was medium brown and could only give that gene. His other allele is unknown. This means that Minuet and Copper's kids are likely to be 50% brown, and 50% a different color.

Pepsi is the youngest doe on the farm. She also has the special honor of being the second goat in her line to carry the Lullaby Farms name. Pepsi looks almost exactly like her mother Pop Tart, but has her father, Chewie's, ears. She is energetic and always up for her next adventure. Pepsi is always cheerful and happy to interact with people. As she is the youngest goat on the farm Pepsi is slightly spoiled and she thinks that she should always be the center of attention. Pepsi is very talkative and bubbly. She is not afraid of anything and her favorite route around obstacles is over the top. Pepsi will be old enough to have kids in the Spring of 2025. 8/14/2023 0 Comments Meet StrudelMeet the goats Monday!
The next goat is Lullaby Farms Toaster Strudel! Strudel is named after her mother Pop Tart who she strongly takes after both in looks and in goatality. Her fleece is a lighter silver than Pop Tart's and she has a heart-shaped white spot on the top of her head. Strudel is the most social goat on the farm and still thinks that she is a lap goat. Strudel has been shown once so far and is expected to go to more. As a yearling Strudel has not had any kids, however, is old enough to have kids spring of 2024. 8/7/2023 0 Comments Meet SonataMeet the goats Monday!

She is named Moonstruck after Moonstruck Chocolate to recognize this. Sonata is a graceful and intelligent goat. She has figured out the best ways to beat the older and larger goats to the best fallen leaves in the morning. Sonata has gone to one show so far and is expected to go to more. The second goat up is Hawks Mountain Ranch Serendipity Minuet! Minuet is the second oldest goat on the farm. She is lovely brown color both in and out of fleece. Brown fleece is a recessive color in the goat world, making Minuet's color special. She is a friendly and cheerful goat. She is happy to receive attention and is one of our more food-motivated goats. Minuet has been to a few shows and has done well. Minuet has kidded once and had one buckling Lullaby Farms Mr. Personality last year. She has no kids as she took this last kidding season off. Each Monday for the next couple of months I will be introducing each of the goats here at Lullaby Farms! The first goat up is Quail Hollow Farm Pop Tart! Pop Tart is the oldest doe and is the queen of the doe herd. With silver fleece, markings that look like knee-high socks, and makeup on her face Pop Tart is attention-grabbing. Her sweet and mischievous goatality adds to her charm. Pop Tart is the first to meet anyone visiting the farm and always looks for attention and treats. She has been shown many times and is always happy to be the center of attention and to interact with people, especially children. Pop Tart has been in several costume contests and is always happy to participate. Pop Tart has kidded twice last year with twin does Lullaby Farms Toaster Strudel, and Lullaby Farms Soda Pop and with one doe Lullaby Farms Pepsi Solo this year. All of her kids have her color and friendliness. Pop Tart is an excellent mother and brings her kids with her to interact with people 7/23/2023 0 Comments Meet ChewieMeet the goats Monday!
The next goat up is Lullaby Farms Mr. Personality! Mr. Personality is the oldest buck on the farm, which is not saying much as he is a year old. He is commonly called Chewie. His fleece is a dark true brown which as a recessive color he could pass on to his kids. He also carries a spotted gene and a gene for waddles, as he has white spots on his waddles. Chewie is a well-mannered and calm buck with lovely fleece and structure. Chewie has had one kid, Lullaby Farms Pepsi Solo who was born this spring. 11/7/2020 0 Comments Adventures of Bella and StaccatoBella was one of my frist goats, and her kid, Staccato, was the first baby born at my farm. They were devoted to each other so when I needed to find some new blood lines for my herd, I had to sell them as a pair To honor their time with me, here are some of their adventures. Bella was supposed to have her kid over spring break. She kept fakeing me out though. I canceled a trip for right before spring break because I wanted to play with baby goats, but no baby goats. She did not have her baby until the tuesday after spring break when my entire family was not home. My family looked out the window and saw no baby goats when they got home. My dad went out later and saw one little baby goat out in the middle of the pasture. Bella had her baby and wandered off to eat grass. By the time I got home the screeching baby goat and Bella had been corralled in one of the goat stalls. Bella had realized that this was her baby doeling and started licking everything in sight including people.
